Upon returning to Chennai, I explained to my mom that I couldn't get her phone charger to plug in at the hotels I stayed at. She told me that when there is a three prong outlet, you make sure that the outlet is off and then you stick a pencil in the top hole to open up the other two holes...WHAT?...my parents taught me when I was young not to stick things in an electric outlet...I think I will just let the phone go dead until I find another place to charge it.
Thought #2:
I am riding home on the bus yesterday after a day of shopping and as I am talking with my mom, I notice this child intensively watching me. I smile at her and then she asked me something in broken English. I write a few sentences on a piece of paper and she reads them to me and I find out that she is 10. Interestingly, a 10 year old can understand me, knowing her language (Tamil) and mine (English), and yet I don't have a clue what she says in her language...hmmm.
